POWAN Empower Hour

The Empower Hour program is POWAN’s latest foray into K-12 education. Working with local high school teachers and administrators, POWAN is integrating direct communication with teachers to cover instructional gaps. We were granted $15,000 by the Strauss Foundation to empower high schools in the Inland Empire and to promote student success in English, Mathematics, and Science courses with high failure rates.

Join us to tackle educational inequities!

At Empower Hour, we empower by the hour!

We are bridging the gap in support for emergent bilinguals and students from low SES with the support of our UCR graduate students from the School of Education and Physics department.

We are facilitating enriching collaborative group-based student engagement activities to reinforce topics covered in school curriculum, provide critical instructional support, and empower our students.

Program Instructor

Our instructors are uniquely equipped to teach through their robust, months-long training. They create and support lifetime learners by providing support on difficult material through engaging activities.

Program Coordinator

Our coordinator is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the program. They oversee the program to ensure we are directly addressing the high-fail rates of a class.

Program Development Intern

Our interns provide unique insights and support for program development. They research and interview key stakeholders to ensure our program is meeting the needs of the schools.

Safety Is Our Priority

Safety is our top priority. We understand that our work is with children, a vulnerable population. Consequently, we actively screen out applicants that do not match the POWAN Initiative’s standards of academic excellence, community service, and professionalism. We make sure that all of instructors are qualified to professionally work with K-12 students.

Achieve your goals with POWAN!
